Do I Need A Web Designer, Or Can I Work With WordPress Myself?

It is known nowadays that if you want to get ahead in business, you need a website. In fact, more and more businesses are starting up that are based fully online and don’t even have a physical presence anymore. Once upon a time, having a functional website meant that you had to be a trained web designer. However, it quickly became clear that there weren’t enough designers in the world to keep up with demand, which led to the creation of a number of websites that allow you to build your own site. Once of the better known sites like this is WordPress. Through WordPress, anybody can basically become a web designer, creating pages and websites that have all the functionality they require. So does this mean that the website design profession is dead? Since everything can be done automatically, is there any need to hire professional designers anymore? The answer, as always, is yes and no.

On the one hand, it is certainly true that you are able to do everything yourself, but only to some degree. The most important thing for any business is to gain that online presence. Using WordPress as a start up website is a great idea, because it allows you to let the world know that your business is out there and exists. Using this type of blog, or any other like it, means you can start providing customers with ideas about who you are without being a web designer. Blogging is one of the major marketing techniques that businesses have, and this is exactly what you can start with.

However, you must also be very realistic. WordPress is a blogging site, and hence has a range of limitations. It is not a shopping site, although there are a number of shopping packages that do have full integration. The reality is, however, that once your website and your business starts to grow, you will need something more, something bigger and better and something that really stands out from the crowd. In all likelihood, you will need a professional web designer to do this for you. They are the ones who are able to integrate your stock control and catalog onto your website. They can advise you on what sort of corporate colors you should use and they can even help you design a good logo. They know what works and what doesn’t and what your target demographics would expect from a store like yours in terms of tabs and information presented on the site. They can train you on how to update your site, they can advise you on shopping carts and other eCommerce utilities and more. In other words, you can do things yourself but it is often best not to.

Is HootSuite Right For You?

With HootSuite you can manage multiple Twitter and social media profiles and schedule tweets, as well as measure your social success.

HootSuite lets you manage your entire Twitter and social media experience from one easy-to-use interface.

Viewing your Twitter timeline, list streams, Facebook news feed or any other social stream is as simple as clicking a tab or sliding over to the right column. Everything just flows, no sluggishness and no moving parts.

The verdict for me is still out on HootSuite. However I must say that managing your Twitter account is much improved compared to using Twitter’s UI. Also I have to say it is much easier to read my news feeds from Facebook in HootSuite.  I guess its like anything new, it will take time to get used to it.

My Thoughts Of LinkedIn

I’m glad I had a look at LinkedIn because I’ve had no experience using it. I did at one time half heartily create an account for myself but never updated or utilized it.

Now that I spent some time on LinkedIn I got sucked in and actually researched more than one company. One thing I liked about LinkedIn was the search filters; I could restrict my searches to a specific city to find companies I might be interested in. When searching the first thing I noticed was the information provided by active companies in LinkedIn. It made it very easy to find out what they’re about and see profiles of their employees as well. Some of them were even posting jobs right on their main page. There’s a lot of information available in LinkedIn and it is like a business card or resume posting site. I do think however that this is a good place to research companies and make connections.
